Cabernet Sauvignon.
History, landscape and climate
The Yarra Valley was a world-famous winemaking region in the 1800s and the first part of the 1900s, until wartime conditions intervened. A resurgence has taken place since the 1960s and this is now one of Victoria’s premier tourist destination and a centre for winemaking tradition and expertise.
Lying in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, the landscape is rolling
hills with soils ranging from grey-brown sandy loams to rich, red volcanic
soils. The climate is Mediterranean, with cooling breezes in the heat of
summer and winter days that are degrees warmer than in the city of Melbourne.
